Foot Prosthesis Renewal Period in Social Security

Foot Prosthesis Renewal Periods and Additional Payments

Prosthesis Renewal: The Social Security Institution (SGK) provides renewal payments for foot prostheses every 10 years.
Socket Replacement: There is no payment for socket replacements within the first two years. Thereafter, there is a payment for socket replacements every 18 months.
Silicone Liner: There is no payment for the first two years. After two years, a silicone liner payment is made annually.

The renewal periods for foot prostheses covered by the Social Security Institution (SGK) are determined by the type of medical device and the intensity of use:

Prosthesis Type SGK Renewal Period
Standard Foot Prosthesis 5 years
Carbon fiber or active wear foot prosthesis 5 years
Auxiliary parts such as silicone/prosthetic socks, etc. 2 years
Pediatric Foot Prosthesis 2 years (due to growth)

If malfunction, deformation, or unusability of the prosthesis is documented before the SGK renewal period expires, early renewal can be made with a committee report.
